Zotac ZBOX Sphere OI520 Death Star Case Mod
I was really dreading this part which was figuring out how to apply tape to the orb to paint the details. If you have ever tried to keep a straight line an a curved surface then you know what I am talking about. Using blue household painting tape and cutting it into thin long strips made the work a bit easier.
To create the zones and the look of different heights I used two colors of grey, dark grey and smoked grey. With the help of a an old tooth brush I would apply the paint to the brush, stroke my thumb over it and flick the paint onto the surface.
A quick shot with the blue tape removed.
So since there are lights on the inside it is time to drill the holes to let it shine through. I found some different size micro drill bits at Home Depot and my local hobby store.
Displayed here is what is commonly called a Pin Drill or Pin Vise. The small drill bit is placed into the jaws of the pin and you twist the drill bit back and forth to drill the hole.
Me, I am lazy…uh, smart and used a Dremel to make all the wholes in the case.
And there are a lot of them and no I did not count them. I just keep looking at it and going until I thought it looked right.
Utterly impressed by this, best Mini PC mod I have ever seen. Need to get me one of these system.
