Zotac-OI520-Death-Star-Case-Mod-25 I was really dreading this part which was figuring out how to apply tape to the orb to paint the details. If you have ever tried to keep a straight line an a curved surface then you know what I am talking about. Using blue household painting tape and cutting it into thin long strips made the work a bit easier.

Zotac-OI520-Death-Star-Case-Mod-26To create the zones and the look of different heights I used two colors of grey, dark grey and smoked grey. With the help of a an old tooth brush I would apply the paint to the brush, stroke my thumb over it and flick the paint onto the surface.

Zotac-OI520-Death-Star-Case-Mod-28So since there are lights on the inside it is time to drill the holes to let it shine through. I found some different size micro drill bits at Home Depot and my local hobby store.

Zotac-OI520-Death-Star-Case-Mod-29Displayed here is what is commonly called a Pin Drill or Pin Vise. The small drill bit is placed into the jaws of the pin and you twist the drill bit back and forth to drill the hole.
