Vertagear S-Line SL4000 Gaming Chair Review
Conclusion
A chair. Is it really worth $339.99? Gaming chairs seem to be all the craze and the Vertagear S-Line SL4000 Gaming Chair falls into that category. So what makes it a gaming chair? You can find a comfortable chair at the store for around $100, so what makes this chair worth more three times that amount?
Let us first touch on the WOW, and that is the aesthetics of the chair. Regardless of what color choice you choose (black or white base with options of red, blue, green or gray secondary color) they are very eye-pleasing.
The plastic slots at the top of the seat back almost make you want to grab a 5-point harness and strap yourself into the chair. However, they are ultimately used for the lumbar cushion.
The leg platform is wide and sturdy, and the offset colored stitching is eye-appealing.
In terms of stability, it is clear while building this chair that Vertagear put some thought into hardware that would hold firm and not loosen over time. My previous chair seemed to have an issue with the bolts that held everything together wanting to loosen just from natural movement of the chair. However, the Vertagear S-Line SL4000 Gaming Chair chair is sturdy and stays in place. This may be from the substantial bolt sizes as well as lock washers to help secure everything together.
The chair does recline almost 90 degrees to a near flat position, at which point I was very uncomfortable feeling like I was going to tip over; but I guess for those late night gaming sessions if you needed a short power nap, Vertagear has made that possible. The spring on the side of the chair for the back adjustments also seems very capable of moving the chair through the range of motion.
Moving onto what is probably the most important aspect in a chair for myself: comfort. Now on a daily basis, I am at my computer anywhere from four to sometimes 16 hours. I need a chair that will remain comfortable for the duration. The Vertagear did just that. I wanted to use the cushions that were provided with the chair to see the chair as the manufacturer intended and what I found was interesting. The lumbar cushion always stays on the chair, without it the chair would not be as comfortable to me. The back of the chair has a natural recline to it, even in its most upright position — something between 10 and 15 degrees. If there was one aspect of the chair I could change, I would like the option to be able to have the chair at a perfect 90 degree angle and control the adjustment myself. I like to keep good posture especially when at my desk for long periods of time as that increases my comfort level and helps to avoid fatigue. This may be a small aspect, and I will say this is the most comfortable chair I have used, even in long durations. But just something of note: I use the lumbar cushion, which then leaves the upper portion of the chair a little distanced from my upper back. If I had a larger neck support cushion, I may not have noticed this.
The last thing I would like to touch on is adjustments. I have already spoken on the adjustment of the back of the chair. Let’s move onto the base of the chair. The gas lift moves effortlessly, raises to a great height, even for the taller desks, and maintains great stability while doing so.
The arms of the chair adjust in three different incrememnts. Forward to back, side to side, and they move left to right.
While the base of the seat is approximately 14 inches wide and may not accommodate the larger folks, I am approximately 6-feet tall and just under 200lbs but the chair fits me nicely. The back of the chair can almost lay completely flat, and in its full upright position has about a 10 to 15 degree recline.
Final Thoughts
The Vertagear S-Line SL4000 Gaming Chair is truly a race inspired chair and has earned its name. Vertagear has touched on all the important factors: race inspired styling, offset colored stitching, strong supports, as well as a seat that stays comfortable even during the longest computing sessions. It has just enough adjustment to make nearly anyone comfortable, without needing to feel like you have more controls than you know what to do with. Yes there are a few things that could be improved, but at this price point, it hits a homerun! For this the Vertagear S-Line SL4000 Gaming Chair receives the Modders-Inc Must Have Award.
