Tt eSports Shock Console Gaming Headset Review

« A Closer Look at the Thermaltake Console Headset

Testing and Final Thoughts

I thought I would do a couple of basic benchmarks. I went to Audiocheck.net – Headphones to do Frequency Response and Dynamic Range tests. The first tests does is a low-end frequency sweep starting from 10Hz up to 200Hz. I could clearly hear the sweep from 15Hz all the way to 200hz and sure it would have gone beyond that if the test kept going. The second test is a high-end frequency sweep starting from 22kHz down to 8kHz. I could hear the test signal from beginning to end  and have no doubt it could have gone well beyond that what the human ear can detect.

The mic works exceptionally well, I was using the headset at a large LAN event and my teammates had absolutely no problem picking out my voice from the background noise of 3500 other gamer’s in the same room. At the same time The speakers would provide clear audio from my teammates as well as the game itself. Now there is a definite difference in the sound quality when going  from 3.5mm jack to Digital SPDIF. the 3.5 mm Jack provides excellent audio quality….But the Digital SPDIF provides such a crystal clear sound, that it actually sounds like you have turned the volume up. I had to turn the volume down to below 30% as anything over that would have defiantly caused damage to my ears this is while having the main audio signal set at 50% in the sound properties within windows.

Likes

  • Lightweight making it very comfortable for long gaming sessions even while wearing glasses.
  • Crystal clear sound from both the speakers and picked up from the Mic. (People could actually tell I was using a different headset as the mic audio was that much more clear.)
  • Ease of use. There was no software to install. Just Plug-and-Play.

Dislikes

  • I would like to have seen it offered in a white as well to match the snow edition cases, and other white peripherals they offer.
  • Plastic everywhere. Even the inner headband was made of plastic. This makes me worry about the longevity of the product. (There have been improvements in the quality of plastic over the years. Only time will tell).
  • The LED lights stay on when the system is powered down. This is just a minor thing. It kinda bothers me when I am trying to sleep. So I just unplug them when I am done for the night.

Overall, the Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Shock Console is a very good headset. The audio quality is right up there with some of the more expensive models on the market that costs twice as much or more. On top of that, I have reviewed several Tt headsets over the past year (excluding the Level 10) and this one by far has some of the best sound. However, the lack of metal in this headset does leave me to question it’s longevity. Then again my middle name is ANVIL and I am A LOT harder on my equipment than the average user. This is an excellent headset and would definitely recommend it to our readers.
