Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 1000W Power Supply Overview
Pure Power and Plenty of It
Power Supply Overview Reviews:
Our power supply reviews are intended to only cover the features of the power supply, thus we call them a Power Supply Overview Review. This is due to the fact of not having the appropriate equipment to test them to our and your standards. Because of this, you will not see any load or performance testing sections, but we will give you our best thoughts about the product. Thank you~ Modders-Inc
A Closer Look at Thermaltake ToughPower GF1 1000W
The dimensions of the power supply are 150mm x 68mm x 160mm. These dimensions can be easily accommodated by any standard ATX case and by having completely modular cables it would be easy to keep your case nice and clean.
The power supply case is very well ventilated from every side except the base. On one side of the power supply, I found a small on/off switch that enables Smart Zero Fan if needed. If the PSU load is low the fan will not operate. On the back of the PSU is also a power switch. On the right side of the PSU, there are 11 individual connectors for the modular cables.
On the top of the case, there is a fan exhaust that is designed to keep internal components cool. A complete specification sheet could be found on the bottom of the PSU enclosure.
Internal Components
The GF1 1000W is being actively cooled by a single 140mm fan TT-1425. This fan has Hydraulic Bearing that emits very little noise and is expected to last for years to come without any maintenance.
Looking through the internal connections of the power supply I did not see any major over soldering or areas where isolations could be improved.
The power transistors are attached to a massive heat sink which should help with heat transfer at higher loads.
The transformer for the single +12V rail endpoints is well soldered as well however I wish the endpoints were a little bit shorter.
The board with the connectors on it is soldered onto the mainboard here so the connections are directly attached.
Capacitors in GF1 are Premium grade from Japan. Japanese capacitors are extremely durable and offer great stability. The main capacitors are rated for 105C/221F temperatures.
