Thermaltake eSPORTS MEKA G-Unit Illuminated Mechanical Gaming Keyboard
Switches Overview & Keyboard Performance
The Meka G-Unit only has one option for switches and that is the included MX Blacks. It would have been nice if the buyer had the option to choose the switch type during the purchase. For all of the new people to the wonderful world of mechanical keyboards, let’s go over the different switch types out there. My favorite for gaming is the MX Black and my favorite for typing is MX Red. What are your favorites?
MX Brown switches are essentially defined by their “bump” sound. The low resistance/force these switches provide make them well suited for fast touch typists in quieter environments
MX Blue switches are a tactical switch, which like the Brown switch, have a “bump”, but with the addition of an audible clicking mechanism. The strong tactical feel and sound leaves no doubt, so your finger can move onto the next key. The low resistance of these switches make them well suited for fast touch typists
MX Red switches are a unique because of their light and fluid feel. It feels like you could place a feather down and activate the key, yet that feeling is mixed with a sturdy feel. It is light and airy, but you won’t have to worry about activating it by accident. This lighter linear characteristic not only provides a smooth uninhibited keystroke, but also lighter resistance for a more versatile typing experience, hence they are a well suited switch for someone who switches between gaming and typing
MX Black switches are highly recognized as the best switch for gaming, although it all depends on the users personal preference. The MX Black switch is a medium stiffness, linear, non-clicky mechanical keyboard switch. They don’t provide tactile or audio feedback. Instead, the switch is completely linear and feels the same from the instant when you start pressing the key, through actuation, to bottoming out. These switches also require more force to actuate the keys than MX Brown and MX Blue switches do. As a result, you’ll most likely bottom out on each key press as you type. These are the most common gaming switches because the extra force required to press the key helps prevent accidental key pressing during gaming.
When it comes to gaming mechanical keyboards definitely give the user an advantage over others. A quicker activated key press is a quicker gunshot and when you are gaming that is all the difference in the world. When using this keyboard in games like BF3 and Bioshock Infinite I noticed that I was on my game and doing really well with this keyboard. Before, this I had never used MX blacks before. I always had used MX Reds for gaming. I think I’m going to promote MX Blacks as my new main gaming switch while MX Reds will be left behind for typing and internet browsing. Think of the good guy and the bad guy in an old wild west showdown. The good guy is the mechanical keyboard and the bad guy is the membrane keyboard. Who wins? Well the mechanical keyboard is faster on the draw than the membrane every single time so the good guy wins!
