Thermaltake eSports CHALLENGER Prime Gaming Keyboard Review

Final Thoughts

There are a lot of different types of keyboards out there and in fact they are being released every day. Some are targeted to the gamer’s market and some are targeted at the general usage category. I type for a living and game occasionally so my views on keyboards are somewhat in between. I want my keyboard comfortable yet I want it to offer some features which will help me in my head shot skills. Since we all have our priorities you should find the keyboard that works for you not only feature and comfort-wise but also well in your budget. We took a look at CHALLENGER Prime by Thermaltake eSports valued at just 29.99$ USD (at the time of the review) and at this price range, it is in the “budget” category. Nevertheless, the CHALLENGER Prime proved to be a a worthy value.

CHALLENGER_led1Offering some signature features like triple back light, customizable buttons, macros and ability to set three different profiles, the CHALLENGER Prime doesn’t look all that bad compared to some of its competitors. From a value perspective, the Prime is very reasonably priced for what it has to offer. We see similar keyboard on the market and they have a heftier price tags on them. From functionality and usage perspective, I really didn’t find any issues with the keyboard itself or the software which it works with. Everything worked smooth as butter when setting up macros and configuring back light features.

So are there any blemishes or downsides you should be aware of before purchasing CHALLENGER Prime? Perhaps one of the biggest downsides of this keyboard is the membrane type switches. Compared to mechanical switches, the CHALLENGER Prime doesn’t stand a chance, however, it does the job very well by providing a quick response time so the “Bottoming Out” is very quick.

My last advise on keyboards is to think what is important to you before you make the purchase. Is the style important? Is the price? The end result should make you say “I love this keyboard” and not “Awww, I wish I bought this one instead”. Being happy with your purchase is very important.
