Synology DS209+ NAS Diskstation
Observation |
The Synology DS209+ provides speedy data transmission and powerful computing capability with proven statistics. When using a RAID 1 configuration, the DS209+ reaches 42+MB/Sec in reading and 36+MB/Sec in writing based on the built-in high level CPU and RAM standards. It accelerates efficiency by maximizing user accounts to 2,048, user groups to 256, and concurrent connections to 256. I set up the NAS with two disk and no RAID.
I tested the DS209+ against another NAS solution, the QNAP TS-209 Pro II NAS to see if there was any difference in speed with transferring data from my PC to the NAS units. Three different files were select to be moved, as a group, from the PC to the NAS units. These files were also transferred back to the PC and an average was taken. Each files was of different sizes and was a combined total of 235MB.
Using the DS209+ as file server for my HTPC was an ideal situation as it was able to deliver music smoothly across the network. Along with that I tested the streaming of the NAS by using a 1080p video clip to my TV and again it went very smoothly.
A Surveillance Station can be made from the DS209+ by turning your system into a NVR by connecting IP cameras to the network and record videos to the Synology server. Best of all no PC is needed.
Photo Station has built-in blogging application and a brand new AJAX management interface. Browse multimedia content on the Synology server with your Sony PS3.
