A Closer Look |
Taking a look at the Seagate Barracuda ES.2 750GB hard drive, we can see that it conforms to the standard 3.5″ hard drive dimensions. One difference that you’re going to see is in the weight of the drive, as you increase the physical storage amount of the drive, you will notice the weight increasing.
The Seagate Barracuda ES series drives are available in either 250GB, 500GB, 750GB, or 1TB storage sizes and come in either SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) 3Gb/s or SATA (Serial ATA) 3Gb/s interfaces. Although the 250GB drive is only available with the SATA 3Gb/s interface. The SATAdrives also come with a 32MB cache while the SAS come with a 16MB cache.
Purchasing re-certified drives can save you some serious dollars especially if you are building your own server. Just keep in mind that the manufactures warranty on the drive started the day it was originally purchased new. With our drive coming from Geeks.com we get their standard 180 Day warranty. So if you happen to get a drive that had little to no manufactures warranty left, you are still covered for 6 months.
