ROCCAT Launches Soura Keyboard at Computex, Sova Lapboard at E3
ROCCAT only had a single new product to announce at Computex Taipei and that was their latest Soura keyboard. It is a full-size European ISO mechanical gaming keyboard with what Roccat calls a “frameless” design, although that is hardly accurate since the keys do not align flush to the body although it is quite minimal, especially compared to previous ROCCAT gaming keyboards. It uses brown TTC switches which are Cherry MX brown clones and are key-cap compatible with standard Cherry MX mounting. There is blue backlighting per key, six macro keys and NKRO over USB. It is only available in Germany and Austria for now and only via Roccat’s online store.
One of the more awaited products from ROCCAT however was not announced until E3 and that is the Sova gaming lapboard, allowing users to sit on the couch and game with their mouse and keyboard. This product has been announced for more than two years now and has only come out now. Not that it requires too much technical reworking but most likely the announcement was just timed for E3, one of the largest electronic gaming expos in the world. Unlike Corsair’s lapdog solution, the ROCCAT Sova has a built-in, non-swappable keyboard giving users option of membrane or mechanical (MK version using TTC switches like the Soura). ROCCAT makes a bold claim that the Sova however has an “indestructible” build, but the parts and padding are replaceable.
