Roccat Kone EMP Gaming Mouse Review
Conclusion and Final Thoughts
The Kone EMP hardware coupled with Roccat’s Swarm software is a pretty powerful set of gear. Everyone is different when it comes to mice and keyboards and its more about personal preference and what fits you however, Roccat has done a great job continuing the Kone line with the EMP. Unfortunately for lefties, this mouse isn’t for you as it’s right handed only.
For me, my mouse of choice for year has been the Cooler Master Sentinel series. I’ve owned all three series and they’ve each made their way to my daily PC. After switching to the Kone EMP for a few weeks, I find that my hand is much more comfortable when using it in both office style tasks as well as gaming. I also find with the Kone EMP my palm doesn’t get a sweaty. I believe I’ve found my replacement for the aging Sentinel series of mice that I am fond of.
The software is easy to use and navigate. Everything is laid out in a clear and logical order. I didn’t experience any issues or crashes up to this point in the evaluation process. I find that the more I force myself to use the additional feature such as Easy Shift. Easy Shift, in this case, doubles the available buttons on the mouse. The on board LED lighting effects are nice and subtle. I appreciate that they are not super bright and annoying. I tend to like the color flow effect more than anything else. The OWL-Eye optical sensor is quick and responsive. For me, anything over about 2000 DPI and I’d have to go hunt for the cursor around the screen or in game feel like my character had a few too many RedBulls.
At $80.00 USD the Roccat Kone EMP isn’t the least expensive gaming mouse by any means but, it’s not the most expensive either. I feel that the performance, build quality and overall presentation of the mouse justifies the price. This is the first mouse I’ve actually had the opportunity to get my hands on from Roccat and color me impressed, very impressed.
