Roccat Kone EMP Gaming Mouse Review
Roccat Swarm
The Kone EMP is powered by Roccat’s SWARM software. Swarm is an all-in-one software; the software controls other Roccat hardware such as keyboards. The software itself is a “shell” and the drivers for the devices are downloaded within the shell.
There are three main tabs for the Kone EMP, Settings, Button Assignment, and Advanced Settings. In the Settings Tab, Sensitivity options can be set as well as scroll speed, tilt speed, etc. DPI settings can be set in this section. Each slider represents a click on the DPI adjustment buttons on the mouse. As in the example below, level 1 would be 400 DPI and when I’d press the + button the DPI increases to 800 DPI. For DPI changes, there is narration. When the DPI is changed a voice comes over the speakers and lets you know what DPI setting you just changed to.
The Button Assignment tab offers you the ability to assign functions to each button on the mouse. The only two buttons that cannot be changed are the left and the right main mouse buttons. To change assignments, simply select the function from the drop down list next to the button numbers. If you’re using Easy Shift + (doubles the available button assignments) the same applies. Custom functions can be created or the button can be disabled all together.
Finally, the Advanced Settings tab allows you to change and tweak items such a polling rate, lift off distance and LED lighting effects. The sound feed back can be changed from notifying you when you’ve changed DPI settings to a profile change notification.
Up to five different profiles can be saved on the Kone EMP. This allows you to take the mouse from a computer with the SWARM software, set the button assignments, LED effects, etc. and use it on a PC that does not have Swarm installed and use the settings set previously.
