Roccat Kave XTD 5.1 Digital Headset Review
Roccat Kave XTD 5.1 Digital
Roccats marketing team does a great job with the box. By enclosing the Kave XTD 5.1 Digital in clear plastic it gives the consumer not only a printed graphical representation of what is inside but also a clear view of the actual product that is in the box.
The backside of the package lists out the features and specifications of the Roccat Kave XTD 5.1 Digital and gives a graphical representation with labels of each part of the product.
The hard shell plastic insert should ensure pretty good protection from damage during shipping. The only additional item that is included with the kit is the quick installation guide. To get the full functionality out of the product, you will need to head on over to Roccat’s website to download the full driver.
The Roccat Kave XTD Digital 5.1 features a very long cable that measures in at just over 11 feet! This should reach anywhere within reason that a person could place their PC. The cable from the volume control to the PC is sleeved to ensure a long life as well as it is visually pleasing. From the volume control to the headset it is a rubberized coated cable that is designed to be tangle free.
The cushion on headband of the Kave XTD 5.1 digital is made of a super soft foam material. it is designed to relieve pressure on the head when wearing the headset, ensuring long pain free gaming sessions.
The top of the headband features Roccat’s name embossed on the top of a rubber coated frame. The headband is extremely flexible. While the flexibility was demonstrated to us at CES 2014 with some extreme twisting, I didn’t dare take it to those extremes. The toughness of the headband should allow the user to enjoy the headset for years to come.
The ear cups feature a soft and supple leather that is supported by a foam insert. Inside each ear cup are three drivers to deliver real surround sound, not virtual surround sound. Each driver inside the ear cup is angled at 12°.
The mic on the Roccat Kave XTD 5.1 digital features noise cancellation and a mute LED. The mic can be rotated up and out of the way when not in use.
The microphone can be completely removed as well. Rather than using a 2.5mm plug for the microphone, Roccat chose to use a RCA style connector. I believe this increases the durability and minimizes the chance of damaging either the mic or the headset when installing or removing the microphone.
