Razer DeathAdder Gaming Mouse
Observation |
The software for the Razer Deathadder is very extensive, which allows you to tweak every characteristic of the mouse. All five of the buttons on the DeathAdder can be assigned to do different chores and each one can be re-programmed for each profile. So if you wanted the #2 button to be used for the menu in profile one and when you switched to profile two it could now be used to adjust DPI settings. Five profiles can be created and can be switched to within a few seconds. You can either assign one the buttons on the mouse to do this action (must be assigned in ever profile otherwise to can’t switch to the next one) or you can pick up the mouse, turn it over and press the dedicated profile button. Yes that’s right lift up the mouse, turn it over and press the button. Not a very swift way if you are hot into a game and want to jump to another pre-programmed setting. A single small button on the top side of the mouse would have been the answer to this unusual setup.
Two levels of adjustment are availability for complete control of the mouse. By clicking on the first tab we will see a new screen appear from the left side of the menu. This screen allows you to manipulate the sensitivity, scroll wheel speed, display the On-the-Fly screen and adjust the double click speed rate with a feedback display.
Clicking on the next tab “Advanced Settings” produces another screen that allows you to modify the X-Y axis of the mouse and the pointer speed within windows. This is a pretty cool feature, but not sure it is used to much as it seems to be for those really hard core tweaker’s.
When changing one of the options that are allowed for the buttons to “Advance Functions” button you will see another new configuration screen. The new screen will allow you to create a macro for key strokes and some other commands can be assigned such as cut / paste or controlling your media player.
One of the options that I like to use is the “On-the-Fly” sensitivity adjustment with the on-screen display. When depressing this button and then scrolling the wheel you can adjust the sensitivity and you can see what level you are adjusting it too. This heads-up display will appear in your games if you have it turned on.
The driver and firmware versions are displayed at the top of the adjustment menu along with an update button that will take you to the http://www.razersupport.com/ section of thier website. This area displays all the newest and recent drivers for each of the Razer products. New updates for the software and firmware for the mouse are always made available on the razerzone.com website. Sometimes they are a bit slow, but at least they are making sure that issues or new ideas to the software can be had. The bitch session: My thoughts and feelings and they my not represent anyone elses….ever. This one I have not figures out yet as to why they flash the logo when you which profiles. The Razer snake logo is hidden by your hand and I am pretty sure you are not going to lift you hand, look at the flash to ensure it is happening and then look back at the screen to see that you have terminated. I would have liked to have seen a rubber grip pad placed just below the two side buttons on the left side and one place on the right side of the mouse for better grip and control of the mouse. Theses two areas are the key to controlling the mouse and after a few hours the mouse could become a bit slick.
A dedicate button the topside of the mouse to change profiles would have just about put this mouse over the top, but having to assign one of the 5 buttons on the DeathAdder to do this function sucks. I assigned one of the two side buttons to do this and well now it is no better than the single button Logitech G5 (even Logitech knew it was a mistake and have come out with a 2 side button mouse).

I think most Razer stuff is super overrated, but the Deathadder is actually a really nice mouse.
