Raijintek Nestor Review: A €50 Enthusiast Case
« A Closer Look at the Raijintek Nestor Case | Final Thoughts »
Hardware Installation and Clearance Compatibility
Because of its layout having generous cable management areas and clearance in the ceiling, component installation on the Raijintek Nestor case is a lot easier than most budget cases. The stand offs are already pre-installed as well so unless installing a micro-ATX case, everything is ready to go. The bottom three stand offs have to be moved up if installing a mainboard of mATX size.
Front mounted radiator:
- 120mm fan x 2 / 140mm fan x 2/ 240mm radiator/ 280mm radiator
- Up to 65mm space is available inside before the HDD cage/PSU cover begins so if a 25mm thick fan is installed, up to 40mm thick 240/280mm radiator can be installed here. Push-pull is impossible unless using a very slim radiator and slim fans.
Rear Radiator:
- Rear 120mm fan / radiators supported (height adjustable)
Top Radiator:
- Up to 40mm thick radiator can be installed here with a push or pull fan but not push-pull as there is not enough space. It would have worked if the mounting is offset towards the left side panel edge but it is mounted on the center and recessed.
Video Card clearance:
- Since there is no HDD cage on the way, there is a 340mm clearance even with a radiator in the fan installed. Total actual clearance if the front fans are removed is 400mm.
CPU Tower coolers:
- CPU heatsink height clearance s up to 170mm
PSU Installation:
- The power supply is in a separate compartment riveted onto the case. Installation requires the user to place it in from behind the right side of the case.
- PSU length is up to 210mm but that sits flush right on the riveted HDD cage. Even 200mm is very tight so users would have to plug-in their cables first on the PSU if it is a modular unit before sliding it in inside the case.
3.5″ HDD installation:
- 3.5″ HDD cage is made of metal while the caddies are made of plastic, 3.5″ drive installation is tool-less (can be reinforced with a screw in the bottom)
2.5″ installation:
- 2.5″ drives can be installed on the 3.5″ HDD caddies as well as on the wall perpendicular to the front fan intake (2x 2.5″).
- Due to tight clearance on the bottom 2.5″ device, a straight angle SATA power/data cable is recommended, even on the HDD caddies.
- A fifth location for the 2.5″ drive is right behind the motherboard tray but it has to be installed prior to installing an ATX motherboard because the mounting holes are directly underneath it.
Cable management:
- There are six grommeted routing holes but only three of them are useable if an ATX motherboard is installed
- The clearance space behind the motherboard tray is 15mm but the raised area on the side panels provide an additional 10mm.
- The power supply cover also has cable routing holes where users can fish out cables from underneath directly and extra cables can be stored in this chamber
