Patriot Viper LED Series DDR4 3000 MHz Memory Review
I was very pleased with my overall experience using the Patriot Viper LED Series DDR4 Memory. Aesthetics are very important to many end users and it can sometimes be frustrating getting hardware that matches the rest of your build. I like that Patriot opted for a neutral color for the heat spreaders on their LED series. This allows the Viper LED memory to fit into really any build. I love the design of the light bar across the top of each module. Even though its plastic, it gives the LED series the look and feel of the traditional Viper memory. The memory looks great lit up in the system we tested the memory in. As I mentioned earlier, a couple more LEDs on the PCB would only help and add to the already great look Patriot has accomplished with their Viper LED Series, as well as brighten the modules a bit. Given, the test system this kit was in is a bit overwhelming with RGB. That alone made this kit look much dimmer than it really is.
Performance of this kit was excellent. It ran as great on X.M.P. Profile #1. I was able to achieve a rock solid overclock of 3600 MHz at 1.38 volts. That’s up 600 MHz from its stock clock of 3000 MHz. For any gaming system, 16 GB of ram is more than enough. Even for light video or picture editing, 16 GB will be just fine. This is a good thing too since at the time of this review, memory prices are crazy. However, this same kit we reviewed can be picked up on Newegg, at the time of this review, for only $194.99. As DDR4 prices go these days, that’s a great deal for a great RAM kit. After my experience with Patriots Viper LED Series, I’m very comfortable recommending this memory to my friends and our readers.
That Gigabyte board was the limiting factor. Test these on something like an Asus Apex board and watch them fly.
