A Closer Look |
The Patriot Viper PC2 8500 modules are backed by Patriots Lifetime Warranty and are 100% tested and verified. The modules are RoHS compliant, and are EPP ready. They have been tested and found to be compatible with Intel P35, X38, and Nvidia NF680i and NF780i boards. With the transition from Windows XP to Windows Vista, its becoming obvious that one needs more than 2GB of memory. Windows Vista will run on 2GB of memory, but as soon as you toss a game, or decent application in the mix, you will find that the system needs MORE. I’m not the type of guy that wants to dial back all the settings to make it run a little better. I would much rather slip in some extra memory and let it run the way it was meant to. On the cooling side, the Viper modules use a unique heat spreader to dissipate the heat. They are made of an Aluminum/ Copper combination similar to whats found in some of today’s CPU coolers. Unfortunately, the heat spreaders fins are easily bent, which is why I didn’t try removing one to verify the chips used. With larger heat spreaders like these, users might find that there could potentially be a installation problem with certain larger CPU coolers. So please make sure you have adequate space above the memory slots before purchasing modules with the taller heat spreaders.
