Ozone Neon Gaming Mouse Review: Light and Agile

« Software

Experience and Final Thoughts

If mouse agility is a priority, the Ozone Neon is easy to recommend with its 82g weight being fairly easy to move around and its massive PTFE feet making gliding on surfaces easier. The soft touch coating on top helps with the top grip and the Omron microswitches for the main buttons providing long life and reliable actuation. Lift of distance is low across all settings, stops tracking at under 1.8mm (tested on Roccat Hiro and Func 1030XL) and angle snapping is disabled by default.

It is not completely without some flaws however and if you are the type of user that relies on side grip, the Ozone Neon will force you to modify your hand placement as there is not much grip from the side. The ambidextrous option is great for left-handed users and switching does not require software installation. Having the DPI switch accessible at the top is also a plus, especially since it is programmable to a different function after software installation.

Unfortunately, it is the software which is its biggest problem. While physically the mouse itself is good, the default software skin is not particularly convenient and accessible. Many of the text in certain features such as macro programming are extremely small and very difficult to read while a large chunk of the skin is taken up by unnecessary graphics. Hopefully a substitute skin is available in the future or at least a more functional alternative as the experience is hampered by this oversight.

Comparisons to the Zowie FK is understandable as they are very similar looking. Other than the Zowie FK’s optical sensor which I prefer over the Avago 9500 laser sensor, the Ozone Neon has all the advantages such as braided cabling, programmable on-the-fly DPI toggle button, Omron micro switches instead of Huanos (which are relegated to secondaries in the Neon) and four color options. Coupled with the $49.99 price tag earns the Ozone Neon a Recommended Hardware award from Modders-Inc.
