NZXT Manta (White Edition) ITX Case Review

« Hardware Installation

Conclusion and Final Thoughts

Coming in at $139.99USD the Manta certainly comes in high, price wise but for the features it brings to the table, is it really that out of the question? Just factoring in the cost of fans at an average cost of twelve dollars, which the Manta includes three of, totaling thirty six dollars. Then adding in the lighting for the rear I/O, the illuminated NZXT logo as well as including the expanded fan controller, what you find is the extra forty or so dollars are used to turn this from a standard ITX-plus system into a premium chassis. The case is much more than a gimmick. Yes, the curved panels are the major selling point of the case. However, between the solid nature of the case, its expandability and the hidden features I found, it more than justifies the price. I have seen less features on cases selling for $200+ so seeing NZXT keep the price at a reasonable level is also a good thing, when this case could honestly sell for more.

NZXT says, “Bend the rules,” which they most certainly have. The Manta feels solid, even removing its outer panels, the panels feel durable not just some flimsy plastic shell. The large interior allows for full system water cooling, no longer does ITX mean, AIO or air cooling exclusives. ITX has been known as the compromise form factor since its debut, however with the ITX plus form factor that we are seeing which cases like the Manta, users can not only have their cake, but eat it too.

Overall, I was extremely pleased with the Manta and my only complaints about the case, are that the NZXT shroud is not removable and can cause some difficulty when routing cables, its size not being true ITX form factor and initially the price. However, two of these complaints are easily addressed. The ITX plus form factor has been around for a few years really since the Bitfenix Prodigy, and has been welcomed with open arms due to the heavy restrictions and lack of water cooling support from traditional ITX cases. Secondly, the price. Yes, at first glance I too thought, “140 for an ITX case? No way!”, but after close review of the case I can definitely say, it’s a bargain for what you are getting. With all that said I can comfortably say that the Manta from NZXT gets Modders Inc’s Editor’s Choice award!
