MSI Core Frozr L CPU Cooler Review: Frozr Goes Vertical
Final Thoughts about the MSI CORE Frozr L
The MSI CORE Frozr L CPU cooler came to play and it definitely held up well against the competition. It is priced just right in the middle with enough unique extras to set it apart cleanly from the pack as well, including a swappable LED top cover that is perhaps the best looking heatsink top cover there currently is at the moment. Since it is an LED lit top however, the extra cable could stand to be tucked in more discreetly, perhaps in its own channel running down the center or the side.
Aside from above average thermal performance for a 120mm CPU air cooler (it performs more like a 140mm tower cooler actually), the CORE Frozr L is one of the quieter performing coolers out there. It lets the four pieces of thick 8mm copper heatpipes do most of the heavy lifting, instead of relying on a very high RPM fan. Even at full tilt, the bundled Torx fan running at its peak 1800 RPM only registered at 43.8dBA and is quieter than most 140mm fan heatsinks. In PWM mode, the majority of the fan’s time will be spent at 1000 RPM or under which is remarkably silent, even outside a case. Since it is also a Hydro-bearing fan, it has a longer life expectancy than a mainstream sleeve or rifle bearing fan.
The system mounting support extends to the upcoming AMD AM4 motherboards and is compatible with systems as far back as the Intel LGA775 socket. On top of that, the build quality is seriously top notch from head to toe. Users can also mount an additional 120mm fan with the bundled extra fan clips as an exhaust support and extend thermal performance even further. Considering it is priced at only $50 which puts it at the mainstream segment, the CORE Frozr L is a very good value buy.
