Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 Rev 4.0 Motherboard Review: Old but Gold
If you stumbled upon this article you may be wondering why a review for a two-year old 990FX motherboard has been published in Q3 2014. There are a couple of reasons for that, part of which involves the fact that AMD has refreshed their AM3+ FX processor offerings a few weeks ago at much more affordable pricing so some AMD-centric builders have more options for building or upgrading. Secondly, this is the most recent revision of the 990FXA-UD3 at Revision 4 released last year so it is not THAT old. Technically, this is actually the 5th version of this motherboard and is the most drastically changed compared to previous 990FX-UD3’s (rev 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, and 3.0) which only featured small changes between each revision but kept relatively the same PCB layout, VRM and heatsink design. Besides, there are no published reviews for this specific rev 4.0 motherboard that I can find so this is going to be the first. As the most affordable 990FX motherboard that officially supports AMD’s FX-9590 monster, it is certainly worth taking a look at.

MSRP: $119.99 USD

The packaging remains the same as the previous 990FXA-UD3 revisions but missing is the giant “2011 performance” award that used to be on the upper left hand for obvious reasons. What you should look for however is the revision number in the serial number sticker on the lower side corner. It should say Revision 4.0 there and also tell you the BIOS version installed. Accessories include two pairs of latching SATA cables (two angled, two straight), driver disc, manual, installation guidebook, a dual-SLI cable and a color coded IO shield.
