Enermax Triathlor FC 550W Power Supply Overview
I put this PSU to use in various machines around my house, and it worked like a champ. Obviously, at 550w, it’s not a high end power supply, but it has many desirable features that system builders with lower power requirements will find appealing. It is a quiet (when used in the lower demand requirements that this unit is positioned for), and feature packed power supply that performed well around my house. Small enough to fit into space constrained cases, yet powerful and efficient enough to spin everything along, this is a good unit. Under heavier loads the unit was noticeable (sound wise), but not horrible. The price is my biggest concern. $109.99 (base) for a 550w power supply is steep in that market space. with the majority of reputable power supplies selling in the $79 -$99 range, there are alternatives that offer similar features for less than this unit, and for that reason, I fear that Enermax is going to price itself out of consideration for many users. Fully modular would have been a “nice to have”, seeing as we are modders, and that would have lent itself well to cable customization and sleeving. Visually speaking, this is an unassuming unit, not adding, not detracting. No lights, no bells or whistles. The gold logo on the side is not a bright gold, and the modular panel is clearly labeled. The unit worked well, and offers flexibility, but at a higher price than most of the competition.
I’d like to thank Ecomaster/Enermax for donating this power supply for review!
