Enermax Thormax GT Full-Tower Case: Big on Ideas

« Hardware Assembly and Compatibility Issues

Final Thoughts about the Enermax Thormax Giant

In literary convention, the word “giant” conjures up an obvious figure of size but it also usually negatively implies a lumbering, slow-witted lummox. Fortunately, the Thormax Giant chassis is far from typical. It is a case that makes use of its size but does not solely rely on the advantage extra internal room provides. It also delivers several features of convenience that compliment a gaming lifestyle. Perhaps that is why it is also referred to as the “Thormax GT”, denoting its high-performance characteristics.

The Thormax Giant’s cable management options are extensive (rightfully so), but the main chamber boasts massive room for E-ATX motherboards, 194mm CPU height clearance and a 353mm GPU length clearance that extends further to 481mm with the removal of the middle HDD cage. Obviously, there is no such video card available that would use up more than 353mm and that would warrant the flexible arrangement but it is there anyway should it be needed or for placing a liquid cooling pump. 240mm radiators can be mounted at the top and bottom with the top technically supporting up to 360mm radiators (although the front is semi-obscured by the top panel). This is not the Thormax GT’s strongest suit despite the room for it. Even high-end mid-towers now are designed for full 360mm radiator support but unfortunately this was not something the Thormax GT was designed to do.

In terms of airflow, the Thormax Giant is kitted out with two 180mm Enermax Vegas LED fans for the side-panel and for front intake and a 120mm Enermax Enerflow fan for the rear. A four-level fan control is also integrated on the front panel with LED toggle control (having a separate 2-pin connector support for Enermax LED fans). This is great for a bundled default but the rear is also expandable to a 140mm option and 200mm fans can also be mounted on the front, top and left side.

The storage mounting is also very smart with tool-free 5.25″ mounting complimented with a feature-flexible tray that doubles as an external drive adapter and a 3.5″+2×2.5″ mounting adapter. The 3.5″ drive caddies are not tool-free but they are easy to manage and use.

Overall, the Enermax Thormax Giant (or Thormax GT) is smarter than most gaming chassis with roomy interior and user conveniences such as magnetic headphone holder and built-in fan controller that make it more than just something to store your components in. It has a high-airflow design with complimentary dust filters and of sturdy steel construction justifying the $159.99 price tag with its feature set, earning it a Modders-Inc. “Must Have” award.
