Cooler Master NEPTON 120XL Review: One and Done

« Introduction and Specifications | Installation Procedure and Clearance Issues »

A Closer Look at the Cooler Master Nepton 120XL

One of the major differences between Nepton 120XL and 240M is the radiator thickness. Nepton 240M radiator thickness is 27mm where the 120XL model 38mm thick. Just like all of the Nepton loops, Cooler Master offers 120XL with a 5-year maintenance free warranty. The coverage includes parts, product replacement, and free technical support. So there is no need to flush the loop or add in any liquid for the next 5 years.

The CPU block is copper based. It is not a solid copper block. After doing a little research, I found out that the copper block has ultra-fine micro channels which help evenly to disperse the heat around the block. The actual copper plate of the pump is not reflective at all. You can see the machine marks all over the surface. Nepton 120XL pump is equipped with a very quiet motor that generates only 15 dBa while pushing 120 liters per hour. To add some accent to the case, the pump has a fully back lit Cooler Master logo that glows with soft white light. Hoses are made from FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene) material that aids in unrestricted water flow. Due to this rigid design Nepton loops have decreased evaporation rate.

There are two Silencio fans which are included with Nepton 120XL. There are less blades on the Silencio FP fan as you would find on your standard fan, but these impellers cover a large area with their dramatically curved design. The tips are 60mm wide with a 55mm wide leading edge and a 45mm trailing edge. The center hub is 45mm in diameter and there are four straight struts on the output side. This design allows the Silencio FP to be able to increase the static pressure while minimizing noise. To minimize vibration, Nepton 120XL comes with a pair of rubber gaskets that should be used between the fans and the radiator/case.
