A Closer Look

Looking at the rear 92mm fan we can see how the fans are offset. The N520 has roughly 48 (I could have miscounted) aluminum cooling fins attached to five cooper heatpipes which are used to dissipate the heat from the cooper base. In this image we can also see that the fans use the standard 3-pin fan connections. The two fans are plugged into a Y-adapter that allows both fans to be powered from the single CPU fan header on your motherboard.

The cooling fins are wrapped in a gunmetal gray shroud, which also has the Cooler Master logo across the top. The Hyper N520 has a very rigid feel to it while still being fairly light. If one was to base their impression off of looks and feel, the N520 would have no problem being at the top of the list.

Flipping the cooler on its lid, we can see where the two fans connect to the Y-Adapter. We can also get a look at the cooper base. The N520 uses a bracket style mount which has been used on several of the Cooler Master coolers over the years. I have seen where some have not liked the installation process. To be 100% honest here, if you’re not pulling your motherboard to install the cooler (other than the chassis that have the access hole), then you’re not using what I consider to be a secure mounting solution. Granted, I do get tired of pulling the motherboard for a CPU cooler installation, but I tend to change coolers more frequently than most users.

Above we have a shot at the brackets included with the Cooler Master Hyper N520. From top to bottom and left to right we have the AMD backing plate, the Intel 1366 backing plate, the Intel 775 backing plate, the AMD mounting bracket, the misc screws and washers, the Intell 1366 mounting brackets, and the Intel 775 mounting brackets.
