Cooler Master Hyper D92 CPU Cooler Review
Final Thoughts about the Cooler Master Hyper D92
Cooling requirements differ from build to build but on compact towers where space is limited, the Hyper D92 finds its shorter stature an asset compared to 120mm mainstream CPU coolers. In order for the pair of 92mm fans to cool as efficiently as a 120mm CPU cooler however, they have to run at higher RPMs so they are unfortunately not exactly for those that value silence over performance. Thankfully, the 92mm fans on the D92 are 4-pin PWM and can be controlled easily via desktop or UEFI/BIOS with a wide range of 900 to 2800 RPM. During idle or low loads, the pair of fans can remain moderately tolerable to the ears.
The Hyper D92 is priced at $45.99, placing it above budget into the mainstream category and it does decently against coolers in its price range considering the modest size. The direct contact surface is very efficient and has worked well for Cooler Master’s budget and mainstream offerings so there is no reason why it should not work for the Hyper D92 as well. If you ever find a need for a shorter tower cooler, perhaps when building a system on a Cooler Master Elite 241 (153mm height limitation) or the CM Silencio 352 (155mm clearance) or other compact mid-towers that prevent mainstream 120mm CPU coolers such as the Hyper 212 EVO from fitting, the Hyper D92 is a decent choice.
The updated Hyper D92 look not only improves upon the appearance of the original N520, but also delivers ease of installation with the use of thumbscrews and a tube of thermal compound so installation is possible right out of the box without the need for tools. For a strong performance against larger 120mm fan heatsinks as well as ease of use and installation, the Cooler Master Hyper D92 receives the Modders-Inc recommended hardware award.
