Azio MGK 1 RGB Mechanical Keyboard Review: Less Is More
Experience and Final Thoughts
First of all, you’ll notice that the Azio MGK 1 RGB mechanical keyboard is missing a lot of the “extra” features that other manufactures include. There is no macro keys, USB hub, or software included. Depending on what you’re looking for, may push you towards this keyboard. My gaming habits have changed a bit and I no longer find the need for macros. The games that I’ve been playing do not require Macro keys. A USB hub on the keyboard would have been nice, but my PC has enough USB ports to cover it.
I’ve been using this keyboard on a few weeks on a daily basis. The Kailh switches are a clone of the Cherry switches. Cherry Blue switches are comparable to Kailh Blues. I am used to typing on Cherry Black switches. Over the course of the last couple of weeks, I haven’t had any issues with the Kailh switches and every key press registered.
The lighting effects are nice and I found myself using the custom and reactive modes the most. With the custom mode, you can program the keys that you use in game, and each key can be a different color. My set up is weapon keys were red, movement keys are green, inventory keys are blue. Non-used keys have the LED turned off. Out of game I switched the keyboard into reactive mode, the keys only light up when they are pressed and fade to off after they are released.
Construction of the Azio MGK 1 RGB keyboard is solid. The top plate of the keyboard is machined out of aluminum and gives the keyboard a solid feel. There have been mechanical keyboard that I have used were I could feel the keyboard flex under heavy use, this is not this case here. The included palm rest is solid as well, once attached I didn’t notice any movement or flex in the palm rest and was very comfortable to use. The Azio MGK 1 RGB mechanical keyboard is very simple and very well put together without the extra embellishments that tend to go unused. At the time of this writing the MGK 1 RGB is priced at $115. I feel that Azio has done exceptionally well with less is more and has an extremely well built product with the MGK1 RGB keyboard that can take quite a bit of abuse.
