Synology is unveiling new additions to DiskStation family
Synology DS118, DS218play, and DS218j
We received news that Synology is adding three additional network attached devices to their DiskStation family. These feature rich devices DS118, DS218play, and DS218j offer media streaming, file sharing and data backup capabilities for small office and home use.
DS218play (the successor of DS216play) is a 2 bay NAS which is powered by a 64 bit quad core (1.4GHz) processor that has a built in encryption engine and 1GB of memory. This little NAS supports real-time 4K Ultra HD (4096 x 2160) video trans-coding, bringing of up to 10bit, H.265 (HEVC) content.
DS118 (the successor of DS116) is a 1 bay NAS is also powered by 64 bit quad core (1.4GHz) with 1GB of memory. DS118 is also optimized for 10-bit 4K H.265 video trans-coding via Video Station.
DS218j (2 bay NAS) is the replacement of best-selling DS216j. With a faster dual-core processor, DS218j delivers sequential throughput at over 113 MB/s reading and 112 MB/s writing, which fully utilizes the bandwidth the 1GbE LAN port. DS218j is designed for home and personal users as a versatile storage server that runs 24/7 with low power consumption.
All three units are available starting today through various online resellers and retailers such as Amazon. With MSRP’s of $179.99 for DS118, $229.99 for DS218play, and $169.99 for DS218j, all three new units provide an affordable option to people who want to create their own private cloud.
