NVIDIA Announces GTX 1080 for $599 and GTX 1070 for $379, Faster than SLI 980’s
NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang was present at Dreamhack in Austin, Texas to announce the biggest news from NVIDIA this year: the announcement of the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 video cards. These new video cards are based on the new Pascal architecture with the GTX 1080 boasting better performance than a Titan X and a pair of GTX 980 in SLI with 8GB of GDDR5X memory and capable of 9TFLOP. The GTX 1070 on the other hand has 8GB of GDDR5 memory and 6.5TFLOPS. Requiring only a single 8-pin power connector, the GTX 1080 is a very efficient card, approximately 3x the efficiency of a Titan X.
Even more impressive than performance however are the prices for these cards. With an MSRP of only $599, the GTX 1080 is certainly remarkable value-buy considering how much a GTX 980Ti is currently. The GTX 1070 has an MSRP of $379. Retail availability for the GTX 1080 starts May 27th, while the GTX 1070 will arrive a bit later in June right after Computex.
