Corsair Announces RMx Power Supply Series
There is a new power supply option in town from Corsair and it just happens to be friendly to user’s wallets. This does not mean that the RMx power supply series is stripped of good features however as it still carries an 80 Plus Gold certification and Corsair claims 100% Japanese 105C capacitor usage; probably only on the primary considering the price, although it would be surprising to see what is inside. I would suggest waiting for our sister-site JonnyGuru.com to review one, although you can check out the RM650i review that OklahomaWolf posted last week for comparison.
Corsair also has a zero-RPM fan mode similar to the older HX series. This zero-RPM fan mode (essentially semi-passive mode) is why I use a Corsair HX850 on my test bench because I can more accurately measure heatsink fan noise levels when the power supply fan is not interfering. As if these features were not enough, the RMx power supply series also are fully modular units and carry a 7-year warranty. Check the MSRP below if you are not convinced of this bang-for-buck power supply value yet:
- 550W – $109.99
- 650W – $119.99
- 750W – $129.99
- 850W – $149.99
- 1000W – $179.99
The cost-saving move compared to the RMi series is most likely from the fan (since the RMi uses fluid-bearing, the RMx might use ball-bearing or sleeve) and the lack of the digital i-features via Corsair Link software.
