So you want to take your case mod to the next level by putting in a window in your CD-ROM. The first thing your friends will ask is why? and your response probably will beah, um… because. What you should tell them is Im a Modder and proud of it! Whether it can be taken apart or not, I will find a way to mod it! Now lets get on with the modding of the CD-ROM. First things first, you must protect yourself. Some type of eyewear is a must; you do want to see your finished project right? I also suggest that you protect your hearing by using some earplugs. For just a few dollars you can save a life time of regret.
I think everyone knows what a CD-ROM looks like so I don’t need to show you a picture. If you don’t know, it’s the thing you have been using for a drink holder. What I have done in the picture below is removed the top so I can see where every thing is located. The large gray metal piece holds a very necessary part of the CD-ROM. It holds the piece that helps hold the CD in place while it is running. I decided to just do a simple window at the front of the CD-ROM and I marked it out on the top of the CD-ROM with a pencil.
The best way that I have found to cut out any shape is to first drill holes into the corners.
